Our Captains

Bobby du plessis is the oldest of the brothers and has been fishing and diving the waters of Abu Ddhabi, Dubai, Musandam, Fujairah and Oman for the last 10 years. He is currently running a 112 foot American super yacht, and he has extensive knowledge of the many islands and productive fishing grounds to be found out in the Arabian Gulf.
Bobby has been involved in charter and commercial fishing all his life from the south coast of Natal up to northern Mozambique, Tanzania and on to Dubai.

Darryn Du Plessis is the middle brother who has been fishing and diving the waters of the Arabian Gulf for the last 6 years. He is captain on a 74 foot Azimut yacht and has been involved in the commercial and charter industry from a very young age. He has extensive knowledge of big game fishing having fished the entire east coast of South Africa and ran a successful fishing operation in northern Tanzania before coming over to Dubai.

Calvin has been in the charter and yachting industry along with his two brothers all his life. He is the youngest and has fished and dived the waters of the United Arab Emirates and Oman for the last 6 years. He has been captain on various boats and done many yacht deliveries to surrounding Gulf States.
Calvin has an exceptional sense of knowing where the fish are and he continues to dominate the local fishing competitions by leading Team Soolyman to success with his impressive record of consistent good catches and satisfied customers from all around the world.

Wayne Guthrie has fished the waters of Mozambique as a child, all the way to the eastern cape of South Africa where he has been a captain since 1983. He has fished commercially and ran a squid vessel with 20 crew, doing 3 week long trips for the last seven years. With fishing experience across the Atlantic from Cape Town to Rio, east coast of South Africa to the Caribbean and Bahamas, his fishing knowledge is vast and he is a welcome addition to the Soolyman Sportfishing team. Prior to joining Soolyman Sportfishing, Wayne was running big game charters in Oman from Muscat to Salalah and the surrounding islands.
